Andy sweated under his fireman's turnouts. The fire at the doctor's clinic had been contained and he was secretly glad Jeremiah O'Shea had rescued the lady doctor from the flames. He hadn't wanted to leave her in the fire, but the Boss didn't give him a choice.

The group in the room started murmuring and moving closer to Jeremiah and Weston, who were now circling each other. Suddenly, the fire tones blasted through the tension, scattering those on duty. Jer at least had the satisfaction of shoving Weston aside with his elbow as he hustled to don his turnouts. 

The crew was halfway to the address when the message came through it was a false alarm. When they returned to the fire station and were stowing their gear in the lockers, one of the other firefighters commented to Jeremiah, "Hey, hero. You might want to watch your back." 

As the other man walk away, Jer slipped off his turnout coat, automatically fingering the badge that had belonged to his great-grandfather. Friendly advice or warning? 

…For now, he mentally filed away Ace's words. Sometimes having cops as brothers stirred up suspicions he really didn't want in his life.
