Female. Caucasian. Pregnant.
Unusual. A frown drifted across Dr. Shiloh Bergamot's brow as she read through the medical records. A town of seventy-five people wouldn't normally have so many pregnant women. Yet the old medical records left from the previous doctor in Halo, Oregon included cryptic accounts of at least three dozen women in the past decade who had delivered full-term babies.
In her almost two-year stint here, she had only seen a couple pregnant women. Yet in the past ten years the former doctor treated thirty-some women--over three times as many pregnancies as Shiloh had seen.
If all those women and their babies stayed in Halo, almost half its population would be under ten years old. Yet most of the town's citizens were aged fifty or older.
Where were these mothers and their children?
